This look book has been something that has been in the works for many months. We have exchanged many emails, had several Skype meetings, and slowly we have created this collection look book together. We would like to present to you : La Isla Bonita ; life in the Caribbean, life on Aruba.
First of all, I would like to give a humongous THANK YOU to Vivi and David, the owners of Freedom Beachwear, for putting such a big piece of their trust in our hands for this collection shoot. Thank you for letting us be a part of this amazing process. We had so much fun putting this look book together and working on the smallest details, from choosing locations and inspirations, to even deciding on little things like hair, make - up and accessories together. I've never worked on a project like this before and it was quite challenging now and then, but I could not be happier with the way this turned out.
I have worked with Vivi in the past year for a few little collaborations. You guys might remember that little series of pictures I posted to my Instagram in the sand dunes, wearing the nude Zoe bikini. Or the "Sizzling on the rocks" post that I posted on here not too long ago ;) I even ended up wearing their Nashla Emerald top to Ultra Music Festival in Miami in March! I always feel amazing while wearing their swimwear. The way it's designed, it just feels very well made, comfortable and flattering, which is probably why I felt so confident taking those pictures in their bikini's! Each time I sent Vivi new pictures, her response was just so sweet and thankful, but I never thought much of it.
In February of this year Vivi emailed me two days after my 18th birthday. The subject line of the email was : "Hi there!". I didn't think this was going to be anything special. I thought she was just emailing me to ask for some pictures, or maybe letting me know that she was going to send another bikini over.
But then I read this : "Happy 18th Birthday Ange!!!! Hope you had an awesome bday and we wish you nothing but the best, hope all your dreams come true. Sending love and happy vibes your way! I’m also contacting you because we’ve decided that we’d like to have you as the model for one of this year’s collection with Jonathan as the photographer" I literally let out a little eep! when I read that.
And the rest is history!
Once things started rolling I had a vision in my head of how I wanted this look book to look and feel like, and when Vivi and I had our first Skype call our visions immediately clicked with each other. Vivi told me that it was really important to her that we capture the essence and beauty of Aruba, and wanted us to pick our favourite places on the island and connect them like a story.
The next step was making several "mood/inspiration boards" for all the different bikinis in the collection. I went online trying to search for inspiration, trying to see if any other brand had ever done something like what we had in mind. After a while I realised that I couldn't find ANYTHING that fit our vision 100% perfectly, so this look book is exactly what Vivi and have been dreaming of for months.
We have spent early mornings and very late nights for the past few months working on putting this look book together. I never thought doing something like this could take months, but it sure did, and BOIIII am I THRILLED with the way it turned out!
I hope you can feel the heat, smell the salty breeze and experience the Caribbean lifestyle through this look book.
Thank you once again to Vivi & David for giving Johnathan and I this amazing opportunity to let our "creative juices" flow, but most of all, thank you for this everlasting friendship that we will never ever take for granted. You guys are so pure, fun and have such kind souls. Thank you guys for everything. <3
